The \u2018Swadeshi\u2019 and \u2018Boycott\u2019 were adopted as methods of struggle for the first time during the"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list mcq\">\n<li>Agitation against the Partition of Bengal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Home Rule Movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-Cooperation Movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit of the Simon Commission to India<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Answer: (a) Agitation against the Partition of Bengal<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"notes\">Notes:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Partition of Bengal in 1905:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When\u00a0<strong>Lord Curzon, then Viceroy of India<\/strong>, announced the\u00a0<strong>partition of Bengal\u00a0<\/strong>in July 1905, Indian National Congress, initiated the\u00a0<strong>Swadeshi movement in Bengal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Swadeshi movement was launched as a protest movement which also gave a lead to the Boycott movement in the country.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, Lala Lajpat Rai are the key people in the swadeshi movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Partition was aimed for administration purposes but in fact is\u00a0<strong>treated as divide and rule policy and further agitated people<\/strong>, who perceived that it was a deliberate attempt to divide the Bengal Presidency on religious grounds, with a Muslim majority in the east and a Hindu majority in the west, thereby\u00a0<strong>weakening the nationalist cause<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Home rule movement<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Its objective is\u00a0<strong>to establish self-government\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tilak started the movement in\u00a0<strong>April 1916 at Belgaum<\/strong>, while\u00a0<strong>Annie Besant started in September 1916 at Adyar, Madras<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tilak\u2019s movement was confined to Maharashtra and Karnataka, And the Annie Besant movement\u00a0spread to other parts of India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The All India Home league ended in 1920 when it elected Mahatma Gandhi as its President and when it merged into the Indian National Congress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1920, All India Home Rule League changed its name to Swarajya Sabha.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Non-cooperation Movement<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The non-cooperation movement by Gandhiji was followed\u00a0<strong>from September 1920 to February 1922.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar in 1919 was one of the major reasons for the start of the Non-cooperation movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Chauri Chaura incident occurred at Chauri Chaura in the Gorakhpur district (Uttar Pradesh) on\u00a04 February 1922, when a large group of protesters, participating in the Non-cooperation movement, clashed with police, who opened fire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As the incident turned violent Mahatma Gandhi called off the \u2018Non-cooperation Movement\u2019 on 12 February 1922, as a direct result of this incident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simon commission<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lord Birkenhead appointed the Simon Commission<strong>\u00a0in 1927 to look after the working of the Government of India Act 1919\u00a0<\/strong>and had challenged Indians to frame their constitution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The challenge thrown by Birkenhead led to the drafting of the Nehru report in 1928.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simon Commission is known as the\u00a0<strong>Indian Statutory Commission<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>John Simon was the head of the commission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the\u00a0<strong>7 members of the commission were Britishers<\/strong>.
