the\u00a0<strong>primary lawyer<\/strong>\u00a0representing the Union Government in the\u00a0Supreme Court\u00a0and High Court of India.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Attorney General of India (AGI) is a\u00a0<strong>part of the Union Executive.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Union Executive consists of:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The as the Attorney General of India (AGI), a person should be\u00a0<strong>eligible to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.<\/strong>\u00a0Thus, he\/she\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be a citizen of India, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must have been a judge of a High Court for 5 years; OR an advocate of a High Court for 10 years; OR a distinguished jurist in the opinion of the President of India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Term<\/strong>: The term of office of the Attorney General is\u00a0<strong>not fixed by the Constitution.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Removal<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Constitution\u00a0<strong>does not contain the procedure and grounds for the removal<\/strong>\u00a0of the Attorney General.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He holds office\u00a0<strong>during the pleasure of the President.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thus, he\/she may be such other duties of a legal character that are assigned to him by the President.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To discharge the functions conferred on him by the Constitution or any other law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the&nbsp;<strong>President of India has assigned<\/strong>&nbsp;the following duties to the Attorney General of India (AGI):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To appear on behalf of the Government of India in all cases in the Supreme Court in which the Government of India is concerned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To represent the Government of India in any reference made by the President to the Supreme Court under Article 143 of the Constitution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>T<strong>o appear (when required by the Government of India) in any High Court\u00a0<\/strong>in any case in which the Government of India is concerned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rights-of-attorney-general-of-india-agi\"><strong>Rights of Attorney General of India (AGI)<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Attorney General of India has the following rights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He\/she has the\u00a0<strong>\u2018Right of Audience<\/strong>\u2019 in all courts in the territory of India in the performance of his\/her official duties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she has the\u00a0<strong>\u2018Right to Speak\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0and to\u00a0<strong>\u2018Take part in the Proceedings\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of both the Houses of Parliament or their joint sitting and any committee\u00a0<\/strong>of the Parliament of which he may be named a member but\u00a0<strong>without a right to vote.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He enjoys all the\u00a0<strong>privileges and immunities<\/strong>\u00a0that are available to a\u00a0<strong>Member of Parliament.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"limitations-of-attorney-general-of-india\"><strong>Limitations of Attorney General of India<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to avoid any conflict of duty or any complications therein, the following limitations are placed on the Attorney General of India (AGI):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He should\u00a0<strong>not advise or hold a brief against the Government of India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He should\u00a0<strong>not advise or hold a brief in cases in which he is called upon to advise or appear for the Government of India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He should\u00a0<strong>not defend accused persons in criminal prosecutions without the permission of the Government of India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He should not accept an appointment as a Director in any company or corporation without the permission of the Government of India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He should not advise any Ministry or Department of the Government
