These duties were added through the\u00a0<strong>42nd Amendment Act in 1976, outlining 11 Fundamental Duties for citizens.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Originally 10 in number, one more duty was added through the 86<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Constitutional Amendment Act, 2002. All the\u00a0<strong>eleven duties<\/strong>\u00a0are listed in\u00a0<strong>Article 51-A<\/strong>\u00a0of the Constitution (the sole Article in Part-IV-A).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The fundamental duties serve as a reminder to citizens that while enjoying their rights, they have also to be quite conscious of duties they owe to their country, their society and to their fellow-citizens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, like the Directive Principles, the duties are also<strong>\u00a0non-justiciable<\/strong>\u00a0in nature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>These fundamental duties are mentioned below:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>abide by the Constitution<\/strong>\u00a0and respect its ideals and institutions,\u00a0<strong>the National Flag and the National Anthem,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To cherish and follow the\u00a0<strong>noble ideals that inspired the national struggle<\/strong>\u00a0for freedom,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><mark>To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India,<\/mark><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>defend the country<\/strong>\u00a0and render\u00a0<strong>national service\u00a0<\/strong>when called upon to do so,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood<\/strong>\u00a0amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic, and regional or sectional diversities and to\u00a0<strong>renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To value and preserve the\u00a0<strong>rich heritage of the country\u2019s composite culture,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>protect and improve the natural environment<\/strong>\u00a0including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife, and to\u00a0<strong>have compassion for living creatures,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>develop a scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0<strong>safeguard public property and to abjure violence,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To strive towards\u00a0<strong>excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity<\/strong>\u00a0so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavor and achievement, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide opportunities for education to his child or ward\u00a0<strong>between the age of six and fourteen years (added by the 86th Constitutional Amendment Act of
