It was an\u00a0<strong>important\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/buddhist-centres-upsc\/\">Buddhist center<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>during the ancient and medieval periods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dhanyakataka was\u00a0<strong>founded in the 5th century BCE by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/the-satavahanas-satavahana-dynasty-upsc\/\">Satavahana dynasty<\/a><\/strong>. The Satavahanas were a powerful dynasty that ruled over much of South India\u00a0<strong>from the 2nd century BCE to the 3rd century<\/strong>\u00a0CE. Dhanyakataka was the<strong>\u00a0capital<\/strong>\u00a0of the Satavahanas from the 1st to the 3rd centuries CE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dhanyakataka was a major center of Buddhist learning and culture. The city was home to a number of monasteries and universities, including the<strong>\u00a0Dharmagupta Vihara<\/strong>, which was one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in India. Dhanyakataka was also a major center of Buddhist art and architecture. The\u00a0<strong>city was home to a number of temples and stupas, including the Great Stupa at Amaravati<\/strong>, which is one of the most important Buddhist monuments in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dhanyakataka declined in importance after the fall of the Satavahanas in the 3rd century CE.
