{"id":72,"date":"2023-10-09T05:28:14","date_gmt":"2023-10-08T23:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/news\/uncategorized\/thamirabarani-river\/"},"modified":"2023-10-09T06:34:50","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T01:04:50","slug":"thamirabarani-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/news\/upsc\/thamirabarani-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Thamirabarani River"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Thamiraparani or Tamraparni or Poruna<\/strong> is the&nbsp;<strong>only perennial<\/strong>&nbsp;(continuous flow of water)<strong>&nbsp;river in Tamil Nadu.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is the shortest river in the state, the Thamirabarani&nbsp;<strong>starts in Pothigai hills of the&nbsp;Western Ghats<\/strong>&nbsp;in the Ambasamudram taluk, flows through Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts and empties at Korkai (Tirunelveli district) into the&nbsp;<strong>Gulf of Mannar<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(Bay of Bengal)<\/strong>. It thus&nbsp;<strong>originates and ends in the same state.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The river supports wildlife such as the Nilgiri marten,&nbsp;<strong>slender loris<\/strong>, lion-tailed macaque, white spotted bush frog, galaxy frog, Sri Lankan Atlas moth and the&nbsp;<strong>great hornbill.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Besides the ecosystem services it provides, the river also has&nbsp;<strong>historical value for the people of the state.<\/strong>&nbsp;It is mentioned extensively in&nbsp;<strong>Sangam Era literature.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div
