{"id":49,"date":"2023-10-09T05:27:53","date_gmt":"2023-10-08T23:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/news\/uncategorized\/loktak-lake-keibul-lamjao-np\/"},"modified":"2023-10-09T06:38:00","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T01:08:00","slug":"loktak-lake-keibul-lamjao-np","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/news\/upsc\/loktak-lake-keibul-lamjao-np\/","title":{"rendered":"Loktak lake &#038; Keibul Lamjao NP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Loktak Lake is the <mark class=\"kt-highlight\">largest freshwater lake in India<\/mark>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The lake is located at Moirang in <mark class=\"kt-highlight\">Manipur <\/mark>state.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Known for its<strong>&nbsp;floating circular swamps, which are called phumdis<\/strong>&nbsp;in the local tongue,\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lake invites tourists from far and wide for its ethereal beauty.\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These&nbsp;<strong>swamps look almost like islands and are a mass of soil, organic matter, and vegetation.\u202f<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-3-color\">The lake houses the<strong>\u00a0only floating national park in the world, the\u00a0Keibul Lamjao National Park<\/strong>, <\/mark>which is the last refuge of the<strong>\u00a0endangered brow-antlered deer or sangai<\/strong>, Manipur&#8217;s state animal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u202fIn addition, the lake shelters about&nbsp;<strong>230 species of aquatic plants, 100 types of birds, and 400 species of fauna like barking deer, sambar, and Indian python.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Loktak lake was initially designated as a wetland of international importance under the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/ramsar-sites-in-india-upsc\/\">Ramsar Convention<\/a>&nbsp;in 1990.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Later it was also listed under the&nbsp;<strong>Montreux Record<\/strong>&nbsp;in 1993.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lotusarise.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Loktak-Lake.webp\" alt=\"Loktak Lake\" class=\"wp-image-22940\" style=\"width:464px;height:378px\" width=\"464\" height=\"378\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-2-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Keibul Lamjao National Park:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Loktak lake hosts the world\u2019s only floating national park, the Keibul Lamjao National Park. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is a natural habitat for the browantlered deer or the Sangai \u2013 which is the state animal of Manipur.
